TME SpA Termomeccanica Ecologia – EPC contract for a new Waste to Energy plant in Bydgoszcz, Poland

The Italian Company TME SpA Termomeccanica Ecologia, in consortium with Astaldi SpA of Rome, Italy, awarded a 400,000,000 PLN contract for a new Waste to Energy (WTE) plant in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
The Client is Miedzygminny Kompleks Unieskkodliwiania Opdadow ProNatura Sp. Zo.o., the municipal solid waste management company formed between the municipalities of Bydgoszcz (400.000 inhabitants, the 8th largest city in Poland) and Torun, (200.000 inhabitants).
The EPC (Engineering Procurement and Construction) contract, signed by TME the last 18th of September, refers to a WTE having a total throughput of 180.000 tonnes per year of municipal solid waste, able to produce an electric power of 13 MW, corresponding to an electrical production of 100.000 MWh per year, matching the needs of 50.000 families.
In addition, during winter time, 30 thermal MW will enter the local district heating network, matching the heating needs of 3.000 families.
Will complete the system a transfer station for the transport of the municipal solid waste from Torun to Bydgoszcz and a composting plant for the biological fraction of the waste.
The construction works will last three years and the start up of the plant is expected for the beginning of 2016.
